"Tell me and I forget.
Show me and I remember.
Involve me and I understand."

Chinese Proverb

Often our volunteers contribute not only their time and talents, but their financial resources too. James Brown, a long-time member and North Star Circle donor, is one such volunteer. In honor of his parents and other unsung heroes in the African American community, Jim recently established The Jinx Edward and Ione Brown Endowment Fund to encourage students of color to become involved at MHS and to pursue higher education opportunities.

Jim first became involved with MHS as a volunteer with Our Gathering Places, an exhibit which highlighted many unsung heroes from diverse communities. Jim's involvement with this exhibit gave him an opportunity to see the excitement and interest of students experiencing the History Center first-hand. Jim believes that it is experiences like the ones provided by the Minnesota Historical Society that inspire students to uncover and understand the heroes, leaders and every day people of the past and gain new perspective on their futures.

Jim Brown Family and Friend
Jim believes the Fund in his parents' honor will support students' pursuit of higher education and inspire them to become lifelong learners.

Throughout his life Jim has been a positive force in our community. This fund will provide an educational scholarship for a student of color who volunteers at the Society and carry on Jim?s values in perpetuity.

Thank you, Jim.
